How to ship and deliver orders in Nigeria: a seller's logistics guide

From dispatch to doorstep, delivery is where Nigerian social sellers lose money — failed deliveries, unpaid courier fees, and angry customers. Here's how to ship smart and track every order.

Delivery is part of the product

For a social seller, the delivery experience is the brand. A smooth delivery turns a one-time buyer into a repeat customer; a lost or late parcel does the opposite — and the buyer tells their friends.

The common failure is treating delivery as an afterthought: quoting vague fees, shipping without tracking, and chasing confirmations by phone. Every loose end costs you time, money, and trust.

A small logistics system — even a simple one — closes those gaps and makes delivery a competitive advantage instead of a liability.

Choose your courier deliberately

Nigerian sellers have real options: national couriers with tracking for interstate orders, bike dispatch services for same-day delivery within a city, and bus routes for budget interstate shipping.

Match the courier to the order. High-value items deserve a tracked, insured service; low-value items might not justify the fee. Know your courier's coverage areas so you never quote a delivery you cannot fulfil.

Negotiate rates as volume grows — couriers price regular shippers better than one-off customers. A seller shipping daily is a different client from a seller shipping once.

Set delivery expectations up front

Most delivery disputes come from mismatched expectations, not bad couriers. Tell the buyer the exact fee, the delivery window, and who pays, before they pay. A buyer who knows "2–4 business days, ₦1,500" has nothing to argue about.

Confirm the delivery address in writing before dispatch. A single wrong address costs you the courier fee and the order.

Then track it: the buyer should get automatic status updates — dispatched, in transit, out for delivery, delivered — without having to message you "where my goods?" ten times.

Confirm on delivery

Never mark an order delivered on a guess. Confirmation should be explicit — and ideally tied to payment release.

With escrow-backed orders, the buyer confirms delivery and the funds release. If they do not raise an issue within 14 days, funds release automatically. That removes the "confirm delivery" chasing entirely and protects you from false claims.

The result: you are paid for what was delivered, your delivery record is clean, and your buyers know exactly where their money went.
